Welcome to Podcast Suck, a podcast about starting a podcast, where we dive headfirst into the wild, wacky, and sometimes frustrating world of podcasting. If you've ever sat down with a microphone, hit record, and thought, what on earth am I doing? Or if you're just curious about the magic behind your favorite shows, then you're in the right place. Get ready for laughs, insights, and a whole lot of what not to do advice as we embark on this podcasting journey together. Let's dive in. The more you speak, the less you doubt. Why is that, though? Well, it probably has something to do with repetition. Has something to do with getting reps in and actually creating and carving out your own voice through the act of actually doing it. What a lot of people fail to understand is that Self-doubt doesn't survive in the spotlight. You may Your self-doubt, your insecurities don't survive in the spotlight. I don't Too bad. If you have a podcast and you're on this thing called the World Wide Web, the internets, You're in somebody's spotlight. Why? Because you're showing up in a newsfeed, you're showing up on Apple or Spotify, or people are seeing a clip from the podcast. And that is a spotlight you've created. That's what you People pay attention to it. Your self-doubt shrinks every single time you show up. Think about that for a minute. If I keep showing up consistently, will my self-doubt just be eradicated? The quick answer to that is yes. Yes, it will. You need to understand podcasting isn't about confidence. Confidence, that's developed. It's about courage. Do you have the courage to actually do the thing and then be consistent with it? I heard a quote and I'm paraphrasing, but it said, courage and confidence are not the same thing. Courage is feeling the fear and doing it anyway. Confidence Well, there is no fear or very, very small amount. Courage multiplies with every single episode that you drop. Remember, courage is feeling the fear and doing it anyway. You don't need to feel ready because guess what? You're never going to feel ready. You're never going to be ready. You And when you start talking, well, that's where the magic happens. Self-doubt Relationships are built. I hear often, Sebastian, well, I don't talk like you. Thank God you don't. Could you imagine we all talk the same way? Could you imagine we all have the same interests? Boring. When you start to utilize and leverage your voice by starting a podcast, you are stepping into a completely different version of yourself. You are evolving. You're improving your communication skills. You're improving your, your pacing, your tonality, how you show up, how you communicate. How you listen so Not listening to figure out what you want to say next. Listening to better understand. What does that look like? I'll tell you what it looks like. It's an opportunity to take the spotlight off of ourselves because that could be one downside of too much confidence. and putting the spotlight on our guest, listening to One takeaway I want you to have from this episode is that the more you speak, the less you doubt. Self-doubt doesn't survive in the spotlight. So you've got to pick one. You're either going to doubt yourself, you're either going to let the inner critic run the show, or you're going to be in but you can't do both that work. I don't know about you, but I would much prefer to be in the spotlight, have the attention on me, creating new opportunities, building new relationships, lowering my self doubt, becoming a better communicator. Wouldn't you? Hey, And this was a short and sweet episode by design just to give you a little nugget of what you needed to hear today. Cause you may be ready to hit the record button, but just rifled in self-doubt. Let's change all that today.
