Welcome to Podcast Suck. A podcast about starting a podcast where we dive headfirst into the wild, wacky and sometimes frustrating world of podcasting. If you've ever sat down with a microphone, hit record and thought what on earth am I doing? Or if you're just curious about the magic behind your favorite shows, then you're in the right place. Get ready for laughs, insights and a whole lot of what not to do advice as we embark on this podcasting journey together. Let's dive in. Here's the thing.
Speaker 1:Shouting louder on social media isn't a strategy, it's called desperation. You ever feel like everyone's yelling over each other on LinkedIn and TikTok and Facebook and Instagram, just to be seen for three seconds. Podcasting doesn't play that game and that's exactly why it works. Let's talk about the problem with louder. Louder becomes a toxic loop and it's important to understand that. Just as quick as someone can tune you in, follow you like you, whatever it may be, they can tune you out and unfollow you and unlike you and D all of the above. Post more, yell more, spend more, get less. The reality is, when everyone's screaming, nobody's listening. It often leads to burnout, to inconsistent content and also chasing vanity metrics. Look how many people liked or commented or stuff that doesn't matter. What we're talking about here is social noise versus social signal. There's a big difference there. I want to make that distinction for everybody, because I think that too many people think creating more noise or adding to the existing noise is the way to win on social. It's quite the opposite. Podcasting quite the opposite. Podcasting quite the opposite.
Speaker 1:Podcasting allows for intentional, long form, intimate content. It's a conversation You're not interrupting. You're actually invited. Either it's your podcast that you're hosting and you've invited somebody on, or maybe you have the opportunity to be a guest on somebody else's podcast. People listen with earbuds. That's called trust level content. Level content you speak with your audience. Listen carefully. You speak with your audience. No-transcript. Let's talk about attention versus authority. Social media grabs attention. For a second, podcasts build authority over time. One listener who binge listens 10 episodes is worth a thousand likes on any Instagram reel. Social media content you name it. Podcasting equals the slow drip of brand equity, if that makes sense.
Speaker 1:Another thing podcasting does is it helps you own attention, not get attention. Notice the difference Getting attention, earning attention, owning attention what do you want to do? You want to earn it, do you want to buy it or do you want to own it. I don't know about you, but I want to own the attention. Your voice becomes a calm I don't know depends on personality consistent and confident signal to people. They look forward to the content. If you tune into the show, it's because you're trying to either figure out your podcasting game plan or you're trying to improve it. And if I've taught you something and you've been able to take away something, even if it's one thing that's helped you, you're going to continue to come back. Why? Because I'm now a trusted voice and resource for you starting and growing a podcast. Now that's just me as an example. What you're looking to become is that calm, calm, consistent, confident signal Podcast also allows you to plant your flag and say this is what I believe.
Speaker 1:Think about Joe Rogan. Maybe you're a fan, maybe you're not. The world's largest podcasts are out there with the world's largest podcasts, and he happens to be very good at what he does. When he has a big name, he has a presidential candidate on the show, somebody that can influence the world. Maybe it's not political large name. Maybe you're a fan of this individual. Maybe it's a musician or an actor, somebody you look forward to when you know that Joe Rogan is sitting down with this individual. You're excited. You know why? Because Joe is a trusted source to be able to deliver an interview that's going to be informative, entertaining, dll of the above.
Speaker 1:When you speak consistently, people start hearing you when they need you. Let me say that again when you start speaking consistently, people start hearing you when they need you. That's also called top of mind. So if all I've done is shout, how do I change that? What can I do instead? Great question Stop chasing the algorithm. Build your own channel, channel, meaning podcast, youtube, whatever it may be but build it, stay committed to it, provide value and serve it. When you do that, people reciprocate by consuming the content and it doesn't require any shouting. Social media is great when it comes to amplifying something like your podcast, but joining the existing noise, no dice.
Speaker 1:Focus on depth, not volume, pun intended. When it comes to podcast, you don't need to go viral, you need to go valuable, because once you're valuable, you're top of mind. When you're top of mind, people consume your content and they keep coming back to do that. If they need what you have to offer as a business, they will hire you. I'm living proof. Let's quickly recap Strategy isn't louder, it's smarter. Podcasting is not a volume game. It's a value game.

Speaker 1:Yes, you'll be speaking with me. We'll spend 10, 15 minutes chatting about what's possible with you, not contributing to the existing noise that exists on social media. I'm telling you, the magic is made when you focus on not going viral but instead going valuable, valuable over viral wins every time. Thanks for taking some time out of your day to hang out with me for a couple of minutes. There's a lot of things you could be doing, but you decided to take 10 minutes and figure out how to not contribute to the existing noise on social media and win. I want you to win, hopefully you want to win, and together we can make it happen.
